Summary of Position Under the broad supervision of the Executive Director of the Sustainability Institute, the Food Solutions New England (FSNE) and Wildlands, Woodlands, Farmlands and Communities (WWFC) policy co-director will collaboratively lead a cross-cutting regional policy initiative that further integrates and coordinates activities, insights, strategies and tactics across the issue areas of food, farms, forests, fisheries and communities to advance the goals of the New England Food Vision, the Wildlands & Woodlands Vision, including related efforts in a racial and social equity context. This position will focus on farming and food systems and will closely collaborate with the policy co-director focused on land and forest conservation and systems. Position is dependent on continued and adequate external funding.

Other minimum qualifications
  • Masters degree and five years of related experience or Ph.D. degree and three years related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy formulation, analysis, and coordination related to integrated approaches to food, farm, fisheries, and forest sustainability, grounded in a core commitment to racial equity and justice.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with New England’s food, forest and fisheries systems, sectors within the food system, networks, and initiatives including FSNE, the New England Food Vision, Wildlands & Woodlands Vision, and related land conservation activities.
  • Expertise in issues of farming and food systems and related policies.
  • Knowledge of and deep commitment to the natural and cultural landscapes of New England.
  • Strong leadership skills, emotional intelligence, and facilitation and communication skills.
  • High degree of self-motivation, initiative, and the ability to work with diverse constituencies.
  • Quick learner, detail-oriented, self-starter who can work independently and organize priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with and commitment to racial and social equity, and food justice.
  • Familiarity with working in a network; understanding of network theory and process.
  • Willingness to travel as required in project areas, as conditions allow.
